Walton B Hurst

Walton B. Hurst, 86, of Apopka, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 17, 2024. He was born on December 10, 1937, in Orlando, FL to the late Wiley and Marie Hurst of Orlando, FL. Walt is survived by his daughter, Dana (Keith) Lear; granddaughter, Jessica "Jesse" Wheetley; and great-granddaughter, Renley Wheetley. He is also survived by his sister, Marthann (Floyd) Brock; his nephews, Albert (Pam) Brock; and James "Jim" Brock; and his niece Pam (Jeff) Fuqua. Walt is also survived by 2 great nephews; 4 great nieces; and 1 great-great nephew. Walt is pre-deceased by 1 great niece.


Walt graduated from Boone High School in Orlando, Class of 1956. After graduating high school, he worked as an auto mechanic. In July of 1967, Walt became a firefighter for the City of Orlando Fire Department. In March of 1970, he was promoted to the rank of District Chief, over the garage, for the Orlando Fire Department until he retired in July of 1992.


Walt was a member of First Baptist Church of Apopka. He loved horses, especially his favorite rope horse, Pistol; enjoyed mowing on his tractor; and watching a good NASCAR race on TV.

Walton's graveside service will be held on Monday 8/26/2024 at Drawdy-Rouse Cemetery @11am.  Cemetery address is 4050 Rouse Rd, Orlando FL 32817.
