Victoria V. Spellman, 99, passed away peacefully Sunday Oct. 16, just 18 days before her 100th birthday. Born in Scranton, Pa. to Joseph and Anna Sabo, the family moved to Florida in the 1930's and after graduating from St. Cloud High, Victoria moved to Orlando, where she met her husband Paul Spellman, a member of one of Orlando's pioneer families, who passed away in 2001. Together they had three daughters, Betty Ligas (John), Rosie Panico (Jim) and Elaine Welborn (Bill, deceased), each currently living in the Orlando area. Vicky, was a very talented lady, and a good cook/seamstress. During the second world war, with a search light in the front yard of a rental house, she made her children's clothes, and delicious homemade desserts from food rations. She taught herself to play the piano and organ and kept the home alive with the "sound of music". She taught her daughters to sing at an early age and in time they formed a trio, the "Spellman Sisters". She became a real estate broker in the 50's, befriended Blanche Lloyd also in real estate, and through the years they invested in property together. Victoria was blessed in later life to have Jenna Wells and her assistants Cookie and David as caregivers. In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her sister Marie Duty (103), seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Services to be held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church Orlando Friday, Oct. 21, 10:00 gathering and ll:00 mass. Donations to Catholic Charities would be preferred in lieu of flowers. Arrangements entrusted to Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home.
