Sue Ryerson Starks
June 18, 1937 - January 12, 2018
Sue (Fizzy) Ryerson Starks passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018, following a long illness. She was born June 18, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Austin Elwood and Lillian Bell Tarr. Sue and her younger brother, Jack, were raised in Indianapolis both graduating from Shortridge High School. With a keen interest in writing, Sue enjoyed her role as editor of the school newspaper and yearbook. After two years at Butler University, Sue took off for New York City to find success as a copywriter for Neiman Marcus department stores. It was there that Sue met her first husband, Bill (William) Ryerson. They were married on September 10, 1959 and spent time in Jersey City, NJ; Hopewell, VA; Wethersfield, CT and Miami, FL. In 1975, Sue and Bill finally settled with their three children, Scott, Nancy and Jim, in Orlando, FL. Sue was a devoted mother of three and continued to work as a freelance copywriter on the side.
In 2001, her husband, Bill passed away after a brief battle with cancer. It was then that Sue began her successful career as a family service counselor for Woodlawn/Colonial funeral home in Orlando, FL. Her compassion and kind spirit made others feel a sense of ease and comfort during their times of grief.
In 2015, after a brief courtship, Sue married Dr. George Starks of Winter Springs, Florida. Although their time together here on earth was short lived, they enjoyed each day to the fullest, spending evenings together on the back porch gazing at glorious sunsets and sipping wine.
Sue enjoyed jazz music and served as the president of the Central Florida Jazz Society for a number of years. She will always be remembered for her love of jazz music, jigsaw puzzles, books, daisies, ladybugs and her favorite color, red. She is survived by her husband, Dr. George Starks; her brother, Jack Tarr, her children, Scott Ryerson (Felicia), Nancy Overbay (Marcus), Jim Ryerson (Darcy) and eleven grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at St. Alban's Anglican Cathedral, where she and her husband Bill were founding members. (3348 West S.R. 426, Oviedo, Florida)
