Sarah Torrance

September 17, 1926 — March 22, 2014

Sally Lou Torrance, a vibrant woman with a zest for life and an infectious laugh went to heaven on March 22. She was married to Harold Torrance, M.D. for 68 years and had two daughters, Carol and Cathy. She was born in Brookville, PA, daughter of Merle and Louise Heasley. They returned to Orlando when she was 3 months old. Sally Lou lived the remainder of life within two miles of where she grew up except for a short stint in Syracuse while Harold attended medical school.She graduated from Orlando High School.Her family and home were her life. She spent many happy days traveling to see her children and grandchildren, she was always the first babysitter called. She enjoyed creating things of beauty. She inherited her love of handwork from her mother. She was accomplished at counted cross stitch, quilting, crocheting, knitting, needle point andmachine sewing. For several years she sewed matching Easter dresses for herself and her daughters. As recently as last month, she completed a baby blanket for the neonatal nursery at ORMC. She was active in volunteer activities primarily at St. Lukes Methodist Church. She and Harold won the Volunteer Of The Year award at Shepherds Hope, a clinic for the uninsured. She was particularly proud of her help in making needle point kneeling cushions for the sanctuary. She had many interests. She played bridge with friends, enjoyed cooking, playing games with the grandchildren, helping to build a childrens playground in town, caring for a lovely flower garden in her yard and making ceramics. Sally Lou tried to stay current with the changing times. She had a home computer where she liked to email, read and comment on facebook posts and shop online she even texted her children and grandchildren multiple times per day from her cell phone. She lived an active and vibrant life after moving to Westminster Towers in downtown Orlando. She was active in various areas including the residents council where she was chairman for two years, attending programs and chapel, playing Hand and Foot several times each week and having dinner with The Group: her dearest friends for her seven years in the Towers. She is survived by daughters, Carol Thomas David and Cathy Pugh. Five grandchildren, Carin Anderson Oscar , Rob Thomas Kristin, Katie Weaver Scott, Robert Pugh, Steven Pugh. Eight greatgrandchildren, Thomas, Grace and Matthew Anderson, Will, Abby and Sam Thomas, Owen and Jay Weaver. Sally Lous memorial service will be Saturday March 29, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Lukes Methodist Church, 4851 Apopka Vineland Road, Orlando 32819 407 8764991. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Lukes United Methodist Church or Shepherds Hope.
