Ruth Fleischer

On October 30, 2016, Ruth Maxine Hartman Fleischer (89), went home to be with the Lord in Heaven, and reunited with her beloved family members who were awaiting her with open arms. Ruth had fiercely battled cancer for three-and-a-half years. Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, in October of 1927, to Ralph and Asenath Hartman, Ruth was raised in New Castle. After graduating from New Castle High School, she became a long-distance operator for the Bell Telephone Company.

In 1948, Ruth married her high school sweetheart, Paul Fleischer, also of New Castle. The young couple started a family the following year, feeling blessed to welcome a daughter, Susan Lee, to their little home. A few years later, their next little blessing, a son, David Paul, arrived. After a few more years, a daughter, Paula Diane, completed their family.

Soon after a promotion to the Accounts Receivable department at work, Ruth was offered the opportunity to transfer to another city. Ruth and Paul chose the "small town" of Orlando, Florida, where the family could spend time at the beach or take their boat out on a lake. Ruth most enjoyed caring for her family, but also enjoyed sewing, and writing fascinating letters to friends and family. She was an excellent Scrabble player, and every day completed the newspaper crossword puzzles in ink, without errors. After working 36 years, Ruth retired in 1983, and became a Telephone Pioneer.

A warm, loving person, and the center of her family, Ruth loved to host gatherings and celebrations full of family and friends. She loved flowers, enjoyed gardening, and visiting new places. An avid reader, she also traveled to many worlds - and especially to historic times - through books. Ruth was a very prayerful woman of strong faith, and a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who, for most of her life, cared for her invalid mother and, later, her husband.

Ruth leaves behind: Her husband, Paul. Her children: Susan; David & wife, Patty; and Paula. Her grandchildren: Heather Diane & husband, Steven; Michael Gary; Lauren Asenath & husband, Ryan; Paul Richard; and Jon Patrick. Her great-grandchildren: Justin Michael, Amber Grace, Katheryn Isabella, and Sophia Rose. Her great-great-grandchild: Lyla Susanna. Her extended family: Tony DiMauro; Talina Moore & children, Cory and Cyla.

The memorial service for Ruth Fleischer will be held on Friday, November 4, at 11:00 am, at Carey Hand Colonial Chapel: 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32806.
