Patricia Cording

Mrs. Patricia "Pat" Hughes Cording (Garguila) died after a short illness in her home on January 10, 2018 (her birthday) in Orlando, FL at the age of 85.


Pat is survived by her sons Jim Hughes of Orlando, FL, Michael Hughes, wife Deborah of Homestead, FL and Stan Cording, wife Julie of Orlando, FL: sister Kathleen Hondares of Pennsylvania: four granddaughters, one grandson and eleven great-grandchildren; She is preceded in death by husbands James Hughes and Beryl Cording.


Pat was born on January 10, 1933 in New York, New York to Anthony James and Irene Garguila. She married James Hughes in 1952. After moving to Lake City, FL, Pat set about raising their two sons. Upon moving to Orlando, FL, Pat began working for Orlando Utilities Commission as a clerk. Over the next 25 years she rose to the position of Director of Customer Relations, becoming the first female Director in the history of OUC.


Some years after the death of James Hughes, she met and remarried the second love of her life, Beryl Cording. They loved each other deeply and upon retirement set upon traveling the globe seeing new countries and making new friends. She never met a stranger who didn't soon become a friend.


Pat was a loving and friendly person who would often stop and talk to total strangers sharing her warmth. She loved her family friends totally and completely and although strong willed, was always willing to help or share a kind shoulder. Pat was an individual who loved her Lord and Savior and was passionate about sharing her faith. She was an active and dedicated member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and often volunteered on various boards and with the seniors group OWLS (Older Wiser Lutherans).


The viewing will be at Colonial Chapel Carey Hand Funeral Home at 2811 E Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32806 on Sunday January 14, 2018 from 3 pm to 6 pm. A funeral is scheduled at Trinity Lutheran Church at 123 E. Livingston Street, Orlando, FL on Monday January 15, 2018 at 1:00 pm with a viewing prior to service from 12 pm to 1 pm, with a brief reception to follow at the church. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery on Harrell Road, Orlando, FL. Pastor Doug Kalleson will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Pat's life.
