Evelyn Austin

d. August 27, 2023

Orlando

Norma Evelyn Austin was born in Lone Oak, Texas.  As an infant her family relocated to Amarillo, Texas.  She grew up in Amarillo during the Great Depression and was fortunate to attend Amarillo Jr. College and Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas.

In 1947, Evelyn received Christ as Savior after attending a Bible study, taught by Bill Austin.  She was determined to follow and serve Him throughout her life.

In 1948, she married Bill Austin, who pastored two churches in and near Lubbock.  Evelyn taught children in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Christian camps.  When Bill became a chaplain with Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, Evelyn did much volunteer work in this ministry in Arlington, Virginia, Rochester, New York, and Orlando, Florida.

Evelyn was a dedicated wife and mother.  She especially enjoyed spending time with family, participating in various church events, and faithfully attending worship services.  She was a member of Delaney Baptist Church.

Evelyn is survived by five children, William G. Austin, Nathan Austin, Mark Austin (Amy), Beverly Meberg (Ted) and Becky Meyer (Jeff); eight adult grandchildren, Kirsten Meberg, Sonja Meberg, Anissa Smith, Arianne Pappas, Caleb Hofheins, Kara Hofheins, Alyssa Hofheins, and Daniel Austin.  She also has three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Xaria, and Elijah.

Evelyn was widowed in March 2017 when her beloved Bill entered Heaven at the age of 92.  There were married for 68 ½ years.

A life verse of Evelyn’s was Psalms 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
