May Porter was born December 28, 1925. She was a member of a pioneer family that moved from England to homestead in Orlando in 1872. She died peacefully on December 1, 2016. May attended Orlando public schools and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Rollins College in 1948, just as her mother, May, had done in 1922. She was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando. She was a piano teacher at the Engels School of Music until she opened her own studio next to Kaley Elementary School. She taught piano for over 40 years. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Virginia Lee Porter, two cousins, Barbara Porter Garner (Decatur, GA.), Jean Porter Myrick, (Brentwood, TN) and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 9, 1p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to the Heart of the City Foundation, Dr. James Porter Scholarship Fund, 106 E. Church Street, Orlando, 32801 or a gift to your favorite charity.
