Mary Alice Steffancin was born on the 7th of December, 1936, in Struthers, Ohio. Mary died on January 12th, surrounded by love among family and friends. She graduated from Ohio University and later received her masters degree in English from UCF. She met her husband Tom in a math class at Ohio University and moved to Orlando in 1960. She had a long career as an English professor at Valencia College.
Mary's interests included flowers of all types but particularly orchids and daylilies, quilting, playing the dulcimer, volunteering for numerous causes, exploring the mountains of North Carolina and beyond and collecting friends. She gave nothing but love and support to those she was close to; she was a mother to many.
Mary is survived by her son William, his wife Jeanne, son Michael, and his wife Betsy, sisters Julie and Ann and many other dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, her parents Andrea and Adelina Centofanti and her brother Jim.
A memorial service will be held at the Carey-Hand Colonial Funeral Home at 2811 Curry Ford Road, at 10 AM, on Sunday, January 18th. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that you make a donation to the Nature Conservancy. Please view and sign the guest book at www.colonial.careyhand.com
