Mary Fielder Herring, 94, of Orlando, Florida passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday, May 27, 2018. Born on February 13, 1924 in Junction City, Arkansas to Olen and Loamie (Edwards) Fielder and married on May 9, 1943 on the beach in Jacksonville, Florida to William Henry Herring, Jr. of North Carolina. Aside from homemaker, her work career included Information Telephone Operator with Bell South and Telephone Operator Supervisor with AT&T retiring in 1984 with 25 years of service. Mary was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers Of America service organization where she volunteered many hours for the betterment of her community.
Mary grew up on a farm in Arkansas and considered herself a country girl even after living all her adult life in the city. She loved to garden and maintained a beautifully manicured lawn. She was an exceptional seamstress and loved to crochet. She was a wonderful cook best known for her homemade dumplings, banana pudding and chocolate pie (recipes passed down from her mother). Home and family were her passion and delight. Survivors include daughter, Pamela H. Price of Orlando, FL; son, William H. Herring III and wife Patricia of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Kristen Rowe, Mary B. Herring, Pammy Herring, John Herring; four great grandchildren, AJ Rowe, Andrew Rowe, Hallie Herring, Will Herring; and a number of other loving relatives.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 11:00am (viewing at 10:00am) at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 East Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32806. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Mary in her last days including the compassionate staff of Vitas Healthcare (Hospice Team 197).
