Mary Rose Barnes, age 83, died on Wednesday evening, April 1, 2020 in the Abbey Lane, a caring and loving community at the Orlando Lutheran Towers Commons in Orlando. She was born on October 27, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Antonnette (Blaho) Karaka. Mary was a high school graduate from Morton High School and had a successful career as a paralegal in Orlando, FL. She married Gordon Lee Barnes on October 8, 1955 and divorced October 26, 1971. During her married years, she lived in California, Oahu, HI and then Hialeah, FL. She was hardworking and a very loving mother of two children, Steve and Debbie. Mary's special interests and hobbies were going to the ocean with her daughter and floating in the water, reading, puzzles, listening to music, and visiting family and friends. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Her surviving family members are daughter, Debra Shaffer and son-in-law Keith Shaffer, grandchildren, Robert Shaffer, Erik Shaffer, Stephen L Barnes II, many nieces and nephews, and close friends. Mary is predeceased by her son, Stephen L Barnes, her father, Joseph Karaka and mother Antonnette Karaka and two sisters, Margaret Kopriva and Ann Kovac. God rest her soul. At Mary's request, no services will be held.
