Lillian Mae Dvorak, 91, departed this Earth peacefully in the care of Cornerstone Hospice at the Orlando Regional Medical Center Wednesday, March 13, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Lillian Mae Fields Jan. 11, 1927 in LaGrange, North Carolina to Harvey and Estelle (Walker) Fields, she spent her formative years in North Carolina. In 1950, she met Stanley J. Dvorak while both were working in Raleigh, North Carolina and, after a six week courtship, they were married. Stanley's career in the US Army took the family to Europe on assignments-which included France and Germany-and US assignments in New Jersey, Arizona, Georgia, Washington D.C., and Virginia. Lillian loved to recount stories visiting the castles along the Rhine River or the beauty of the mountains of Southern Germany. In 1969, Lillian and her family moved back to Orlando, Florida, where she lived until her death.
Lillian was a woman of deep religious faith and a longtime member of The First Baptist Church of Pine Castle. In her youth, she enjoyed playing the piano, roller skating, and helping her mom and older brother Bill around the farm. As an adult, she enjoyed sewing her own clothes and was a skilled baker who also dabbled in flower arranging and candle making with her husband. She shared a passion for exotic flowers wth her husband and delighted in sending boxes of pecans from her enormous backyard trees to family and friends around the country. With her husband, she enjoyed traveling and visiting their extended family and network of friends, particularly relatives in North Carolina and Virginia.
A devoted wife and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 56 years, Stanley, in 2006 and granddaughter Sarah. She is survived by two sons: Stanley and his wife Nancy of Orlando; and Carl and his wife Susan of Potomac Falls, Virginia; as well as five cherished grandchildren Angela (Josh), Andrew (Shannon), Eric (Kelly), Alanna and Rebekah; and her five precious great-grandchildren Ella, Oliver, Owen, Violet and Isabella.
The family will receive guests Friday, March 16 between 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Pine Castle. A funeral service, officiated by Dr. William Burkhalter, Pastor, will be held the following day, Saturday March 17, at 10:30 a.m., also at the First Baptist Church of Pine Castle followed immediately thereafter by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.careyhand.com.
