Born on October 31, 1958, Kathy Ann (née Gholson) Hanson passed away peacefully with her family on September 16, 2021. A Florida native, she is survived by her beloved son Carl Hanson Jr. and his dad Carl Hanson, Sr.; her mother Marge Gholson; sister Vicki Gholson; nephews Perrin Hoaglen and his wife Amanda, Alex Martinez and his wife Frances, and Peter Martinez; brother Jerry Gholson and his wife Jackie; and grandnephews Nathaniel and Alex Jr. and grandniece Evelyn. An avid animal lover, she leaves behind her miniature pincher, Lucy. Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Gholson, and only niece, Erin Hoaglen.
A lifelong native of Orlando, Kathy enjoyed the waters of Florida. She and her family vacationed at Daytona Beach twice a year, though she took day trips to the beach often. Kathy grew up waterskiing and swimming in the lake behind her home. She frequently visited the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse with her sister Vicki. Although her favorite memories were at the beach, she fondly reminisced about a family vacation to Alaska in 2008. Kathy was close to her family and spent many memorable times with them laughing together. Most recently, she enjoyed attending her nephew’s baseball games.
Kathy was a trailblazer of her generation. A strong and brave woman, she worked for the Southern Bell Telephone Company for 27 years. She broke barriers by being the first woman lineman in Orlando. Most admirably, she fell 18 feet from a pole, broke her pelvic bone, and despite that accident, she returned to her career after recovering. That perseverance and strength led her through her illness as well.
Kathy was also a kind and generous Christian woman. She gave to the homeless, loved animals, and often adopted strays. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
