Judith (Judie) Anne Cumbie Berry, 81 of Orlando, Florida passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2024. She was born on September 16, 1943, and raised in Orlando, Florida, the eldest of three children to Fred and Betty Cumbie. She graduated from Boone High School in 1961 and went on to study Education at Florida State University. She and her best friend since first grade roomed together in college and are still close to this day. At FSU, Judie was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and a Sigma Phi Epsilon Sweetheart. Her love for FSU never left as she enjoyed cheering on - and most recently complaining about - the Seminole football team. While she was attending FSU, she met the love of her life, Dennis Berry. They were married on December 28th, 1965. In 2017, Dennis and Judie permanently moved to Orlando into the house Judie's grandparents built- a home filled with generations of love and cherished memories.
She worked as a Teacher's Assistant while supporting Dennis' career in the Air Force, which took their family to the states of Washington, Massachusetts, and Maryland. Alongside raising her two daughters and staying involved in their many activities, Judie spent her time as a Media Helper, substitute teacher, a Red Coat at the Washington D.C. Convention Center, an active member in the Junior League and working part-time at antique and thrift shops.
Judie was blessed with lifelong friends - many going back to her early days in Orlando, FSU, and ones she made across the country through Dennis' assignments. She and her Boone High friends are still close decades later and were often together meeting for lunch and taking "girls" trips. She loved spending time with her family near the water whether it was visits to Kiawah Island and New Smyrna Beach or on Disney Cruises. One of her greatest joys was spoiling her granddaughters - and bragging about them every chance she got.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Dennis; brothers Fred (Jo Ann) Cumbie Jr. of Kissimmee and Rick (Ramona) Cumbie of Tallahassee; daughters Shannon Berry of Orlando, Nichelle (Sasha) Weintraub of Charlotte, NC; and granddaughters Morgan, Courtney and Ryland Weintraub; and extended family including many cousins, nieces, an aunt and uncle.
