Jimmie Ethel Smith Vaught
Sep 11, 2023
Jimmie Vaught, 94, passed away in her Winter Park home and went on to her forever home in heaven, Monday, September 11, 2023.
One of 10 children, Jimmie was born September 24, 1928, in Robeline, Louisiana, to James H. Smith and Mamie Loraine Stoker Smith.
She is survived by two children, Catherine Pierce of Winter Park and Carlton Vaught (Cynthia Sucher) of DeLand; one grandchild, Clayton Wayne Vaught (Alice Tai), and three great-grandchildren Raymond (named for his grandfather), Asher, and Talia; and one sister, Carol Lyn Sandifer of Austin, Texas.
Jimmie was born and grew up in the small Louisiana town of Robeline. That upbringing later influenced her love of Cajun and creole cooking. She went to school there, graduated from business school, met her roommate's date, Raymond Erle Vaught (11/6/24-2/13/02), fell in love with and married him in July 1947.
Jimmie was a child of God who loved her family and her country. She was an avid hunter and loved to entertain, cook, garden, and remodel whatever home she lived in at the time. When her children were young, she volunteered with and then tutored children with special abilities.
She was active in several civic organizations, including The American Cancer Society, serving as president. She was a Daughter of the King and served on the Altar Guild and in hospitality at Church of the Good Shepherd for many years.
A real estate broker for more than 50 years, she was in her element hosting large groups in her home. She loved traveling, gardening, cooking, especially Cajun recipes, and spending time with family. Jimmie was anxious to meet Jesus and prayed daily. We thank you, Lord, for hearing her prayer.
A memorial service for Jimmie will be held Friday, October 13, at 11 am, followed by a light luncheon in the parish hall of New Covenant Anglican Church, 800 Tuskawilla Road, Winter Springs, FL 32708. Bishop Carl Buffington will be officiating. Interment of the ashes will be at a later date at Church of the Good Shepherd in Maitland, 331 Lake Avenue, Maitland, FL 32751.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Covenant Anglican Church or Church of the Good Shepherd
