Jean A Bradshaw

Jean Bradshaw, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Cornerstone Hospice in Ocoee, FL. Her family is deeply saddened by her death, but so grateful for the wonderful memories they share of her love and laughter.

Jean was born in Schaefferstown, PA on June 4, 1940 to loving parents, Jennie and Lester Becker. She was a middle child and raised with her sisters, Darlene and Debbie. Growing up in the country, Jean learned to appreciate the beauty in nature early in her life.

Shortly after graduating from Eastern Lebanon High School in 1958, Jean married her high school sweetheart. Together, they had two children, Teri McBryde (Ray) and Brian Ontkos (Cindy). Throughout the years, Jean loved spending time with her family. She adored her grandchildren, Kyle Ontkos (Chelsea), Alex Ontkos (Tina), Nadine McBryde and Brittany Blackburn (Randall) and her 8 great-grandchildren.

Jean relocated to Orlando, FL in 1973 and started her career in hotel gift shop management. She retired from the Caribe Royale Resort in 2006 and soon began volunteering at Harry P. Leu Gardens giving tours of the museum. She was eventually hired by the City of Orlando and worked part-time in the gift shop located in the gardens for several more years. Jean also enjoyed volunteering at Give Kids the World.

In 1982, Jean met her second husband, Vernon (Brad) Bradshaw. They were married the same year and spent 17 very happy years together. She enjoyed being a stepmother to his children, Robert (Sandy) Bradshaw and Patricia Gamon, and step-grandmother to Wyatt, Alison, and Hilary. Her heart was broken when Brad passed away in 1999.

Through the years, Jean enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, dancing, singing, sewing, reading, and spending time with friends. She loved the beach, visiting the mountains in Georgia and weekend trips to St. Augustine. One of her favorite trips was a Mississippi River cruise on the Delta Queen with her husband, Brad.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Vernon (Brad) Bradshaw, her parents Lester and Jennie Becker, sister Darlene Labe, and nephew Gary Labe. She is survived by daughter Teri McBryde (Ray), son Brian Ontkos (Cindy), sister Deborah Bicher (Doug), grandchildren Kyle, Alex, Nadine and Brittany, 8 great-grandchildren, a niece and nephews.
