Janice E. Thompson, 74, went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, February 24, 2015. Born in Kings Ferry, Florida, on February 2, 1941, to Ulay J. Thompson, Sr., and Lanora Elizabeth Oliver Thompson, who were both teachers. Janice also chose to be an educator as her life's work. She received her Bachelor's degree from Carson-Newman University and then went to the University of Tennessee where she received her Master's in Education. She then proceeded to Oklahoma State University, where she received her doctorate in Education. After a series of teaching positions in Universities of higher learning, she chose to come to Orlando and for thirty plus years, taught children in the Orange County School System. She is survived by her brother Ulay J. Thompson, of Orlando, Florida, two sisters; Marlene Fisher also of Orlando, Florida and Yvonne M. Thompson of Medford, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents; Ulay J. Thompson, Sr., in 1991, Lanora E. Thompson in 1995 and Brother John " Doc" Oliver in 2010. There will be a gathering of friends at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, Florida 32806, on Sunday, March 1st, from 2pm to 4 pm. Her place of rest will be at Sorrento Cemetery in Sorrento, Florida, at 11am, on Monday, March 2, 2015.
