Janice Hoffner Heasley, 90, passed away on February 17, 2016, surrounded by her family & devoted caregiver. Born in Orlando, she was a fourth native Floridian. Her parents were Eugene and Maude Fulford Hoffner of Pine Castle. Her grandparents were Charles and Edna Angier "Granny" Hoffner of Pine Castle, as well as Pinckney and Julia Sheffield Fulford of Taylor County, Florida.
Growing up on Hoffner Avenue in a home her mother designed, Janice spent a lot of time enjoying Lake Conway. In junior high, the Heasley family moved just down the street, and Janice met Wayne, her future husband . They didn't start dating until high school, but their marriage lasted 36 years until his early death in 1985. She never remarried.
Janice graduated from Orlando High School and Rollins College, where she majored in Spanish. In later years she would get quite a teasing for forgetting the translation of queso while in a Mexican restaurant. She accompanied Wayne to University of Florida as young marrieds. They lived in the Flavet apartments (so named because it housed Florida veterans). While Wayne earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree, Janice received her PhT (the infamous "Putting Hubby Through")
Janice had several interests. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, excelling at both. She was in a Bridge Club that lasted for decades, as did the friendships. She was a member of the Orlando Garden Club and for years was active in groups at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando. She volunteered for decades at the Neon Club for adults with disabilities. She had season tickets at Orlando Ballet and the Symphony. And she loved doing all the brain teasers in "the funnies."
Predeceased by her husband Wayne, Janice is survived by her 3 daughters, Cathy of Jensen Beach. Karen (Gary Henderson) and Paula of Orlando, as well as her devoted caregiver, Perri Schad. She has 4 granddaughters, Cassie Kelly of Jensen Beach, Christin (Jonathan) Gavel of Port St. Lucie, Caitlin Kelly of Stuart, and Maggie (Kirk) Finley of Orlando. She has 7 great grandchildren, Carly Brammeier of Orlando, Alex Kusser of Jensen Beach, Andrew "AJ" Clark of Stuart, Jackson and Levi Finley of Orlando, Anthony Jacobo of Stuart, and Lily Gavel of Port St. Lucie.
Viewing and service will be held Saturday, February 20th at Carey Hand Colonial Chapel at 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Comforter.
