Ivy Cooper Darlington (also lovingly known as Tati and GG) was born on November 15, 1922, in St Mary, Jamaica, West Indies. In the late 1940's, she immigrated to the United States of America and settled in New York City, New York, where she lived until she relocated to Orlando, Florida in 1980.
Ivy's desire to help others along with her passionate demeanor made it second nature for her to pursue a brief career in health service field, which prompted her to work in the children's ward at Bellevue Hospital for five (5) years. To continue providing service to others, Ivy returned to school and became a licensed beautician. She quickly established her own beauty salon in Manhattan, New York where she serviced hundreds of customers for many years. After moving to Orlando, Ivy continued to provide hairdressing service to many customers and reluctantly fully retired, only about 5 years ago.
Being a devoted Christian, Ivy's faith was paramount to her; she loved The Lord. Family meant a lot to her; she was traditional, modest in statue, calm in nature and had a loving and giving spirit. She was elegant, fashionable, compassionate and kind to all; she had never met a stranger. Her thirst for adventure and love for different cultures lead her to travel all over the world. She lived a full life that was complete with laughter and sorrow, good times and bad times. She never took a day for granted and made sure she impacted other lives regularly, whether it being with a pep talk, lecture, or just an invite for delicious spreads of her good, old fashioned home cooking.
After a brief illness, on November 9, 2015, the Lord called Ivy quietly home to rest and reward. God in his infinite wisdom shared with us a beloved daughter, mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, cousin, neighbor, friend and good Samaritan to others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mathew Darlington, her parents and her only sibling, a brother.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her son Dwight Cooper and his wife, Angela Edwards-Cooper, her grandson Andre Cooper and his wife, Tiffany Cooper, a stepdaughter, Pauline, four step grandchildren, two great granddaughters, six step great grandchildren plus an array of cousins and many other relatives and friends.
