Homer Zeller

August 4, 1925 — April 3, 2015

Homer Randal (Randy) Zeller left this earth on Friday, April 3, 2015 saying goodbye to his bride of 60 years, Mary Alice Jones Zeller. He was surrounded by those who loved him: son Randal Stuart Zeller with wife Roberta Sargent Zeller; daughter Beth Zeller Potter with husband Robert Potter; grandchildren Buck Zeller, Jennifer Potter and Michelle Potter; brother Dudley Zeller with wife Joan Joiner Zeller.

Randy, born in Norwalk, Connecticut (August 4, 1925) to his parents Irene and Louis, moved to Orlando at the age of 6 months and never considered anyplace home but "the city beautiful." He grew up in Trinity Lutheran Church and attended Marks Street Elementary, Memorial Middle School and Orlando High School. He enjoyed reminiscing the beautiful days with Orlando's Old Timers group.

Randy dutifully served his country in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a proud flag-waving patriot. He taught his children and the boy scouts of Troop 48 to love God and country.

An accomplished gunsmith, Randy perfected trap guns with his own design that can be found around the world. He also was an ace trapshooter. Many a great day was spent at the Orlando Trap and Skeet Club. He respected a gun, yet found it to be a great friend for hunting with his son, son-in-law and brothers-in-law. Quail, dove, deer. It was always a great day...especially if his dog, Jody, was in sight.

Randy lived his dream. For 40 years he and Mary Alice ran their company business, Zeller Machine and Tool Engineering Company. As a mechanical engineer trained at the University of Florida, Randy made tool and die work an art. Many a customer came to him with a unique need that needed his special touch. Randy would painstakingly consider and draft the solution. He would then turn the skill and perfection of his work into crafted machinery. Next time you hold a concentrated frozen juice can look at the metal top and pull the plastic. Randy drew the design and created the original dies that made what is in your hands.

Most of all, Randy was husband and father. His great smile and his hearty laugh are what we will treasure. His wisdom and sense of integrity will continue to inspire us.
