Henry Sydney Hooks (Syd), 95, of Orlando, went to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully at home on Sept. 23, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He is predeceased by his wonderful wife, Jean T. Hooks, in November 2019. He is survived by his only child Susan Salter, his son-in-law, Robert Salter of Orlando, his niece Helen Hooks Gohari of Tampa, his nephew Hollis Hooks of Lakeland, and his other nephew David Hooks of Clearwater.
Syd was born in Clermont, Florida, on February 19th, 1926. He served in the Army, stationed in Worms, Germany from 1951 – 1953. Later he was in banking for over two decades, rising to the position of assistant vice president of Colonial Bank. After retiring from banking, he worked at the State of Florida Job Service for ten years. He fully retired around age 70.
A Gator fan to the core, he rarely missed a game. He was also a fan of baseball, following the Atlanta Braves then later the Tampa Bay Rays. Syd loved to fish, most of all for snook. He always said “Hooks is the name; fishing is the game.
He will be greatly missed, especially by his daughter, Susan Salter and son-in-law, Robert Salter. Everyone that knew him loved him.
