Geroge Babe Jackson, Jr., 92, went to be with the Lord, Monday, February 16th, 2015. He was born at Spring Lake, New Jersey on 26th of February 1922. His father was a pyrotechnician, who held several patents dealing with explosive devices. His mother was born in Kidderminster, England, but grew up in Canada.
In 1928, George, with his family, moved to Orlando, Florida, which is still his home. In 1935 while assisting his father at Key West, Florida, he was involved in an explosion and was badly burned. He spent nine months in the hospital and had to learn to walk again.
In 1939, George dropped out of school because he was told that he couldn't learn. Unknowing at that time, he suffered from dyslexia which is a learning disorder involving the ability to read and spell. He went to work on a dairy farm for the princely sum of $8.00 per week with room and board.
In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Apprentice Seaman. Geroge graduated from the U.S. Navy Aviation Radio School and became a Communications-Electronics Instructor teaching Radio material, Morse Code, Operating Procedures, Radio Aids to Navigation and Aircraft Electric Systems. He flew anti-submarine patrols as an Aviation Radioman and performed duties as Radio Maintenance Technician on various aircrafts, as well as Control Tower Operator.
In 1944, George married Jeanne Ambrose and they have three grown children - two sons and a daughter.
In 1946, George entered the U.S. Air Forceas a Staff Sergeant, Aviation Radio Operator, and performed a variety of duties in Communications Electronics throughout the world, advancing through the ranks to Chief Warrant Officer.
While in the military service, George attended a variety of formal electronic maintenance and management schools and recieved a number of awards and decorations for service in the Eupopean and Pacific theaters of operations. He received the Air Force Medal for Meritorious Service as Chief of Maintenance of all Air Traffic Control, Communications and Electronic Systems, including Search and Percision Radar Systems, at Castle Air Force Base, California. He also performed collateral duties as Supply Officer and Staff Supervision of the Air Traffic Control Facilities at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.
He retired from military service in June 1963, and since that time has been involved in a number of unusual electronic activities. One such job was fabricating closed circuit television systems for inspecting water and sewer lines. From 1972 to 1978, he owned and operated a successful television sales and service business. From 1978 to the present, he has owned and operated a computer sales and service business.
George has held numerous U.S. Amateur Radio Licenses, and one issued by the Federal Republic of Germany, and operated Amateur Radio Stations from various places around the world. He also prossess a private pilots license. He is a Master Mason; 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason; a York Rite Mason, and a Shriner.
He is a member of the Air Force Association, The Retired Officers Association (Life Member), the American Legion, and the National Electronics Sales and Service Dealers Association (Life Member). He is an Honorary Member of the Professional Electronics Assoication of Florida.
George has served as the President of the Florida Electronics Sales and Service Dealers Association of Orange County, Inc. He has served as the President of the State of Florida Electronics Sales and Service Dealers Asscioation and Director of the southeast Region.
He has served on the Small Business Committee of the Orlando Area Chamber of Commerce for two years, and the Orange County Electrical Board of Adjustments and Appeals for three years. He also served the Better Business Bureau as a member of the Advertising Review Committee for over six years, and for several years as an Certified Arbitrator of consumer complaints.
In August 1990 at the annual convention of the National Electronics Sales and Service Dealers Association in Las Vegas, Nevada, George was formally inducted into THE ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY HALL OF FAME.
Visitation of George will be held at the Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, Fl., 32806 on Saturday, February 21st from 10 to 11:00 AM with funeral services scheduled immediately following his visitation at 12:00 PM with his Brothers from Masonic Lodge #69 performing a Masonic Funeral Service. His place of rest will be with his beloved Wife at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Drive, Winter Park, Fl., 32789 with his comrades in arms from the United States Air Force performing military honors
