Francis Ernest Garrett, Frank, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025 in Orlando, FL. He was born on March 5, 1930 in Abingdon, VA, the son of Stanley Lee and Margaret Berry Garrett. Frank graduated from Cleveland High School, King College and George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 as a teacher in the Army Education Center in Anchorage, Alaska during the Korean War. He was an educator in public schools and colleges for forty-eight years.
Frank was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Orlando and an elder in the Presbyterian Church USA.
Frank was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Marsh Garrett, and brothers, Robert Stanley Garrett and Lewis Berry Garrett. He is survived by his loving wife, Janie Matthews Garrett, daughter, Pamela Garrett Patterson (Edward), stepdaughters, Elizabeth Schlievert and Susan Walsh (John), four step grandchildren, Ashleigh Pritchard (Kyle), Lyndsey Grant (fiancé Jeremy Fradin), Alison Walsh (fiancé Brennan Mahoney) and Andrew Walsh, and step great grandchildren, Olivia and Carson Pritchard. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Peggy Patrick Garrett and Sallie Jones Garrett and nieces, Amy Garrett Ryan (Mark), Dawn L. Garrett and Susan Garrett Booher and family.
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Watauga Chapel, c/o Green Springs Presbyterian Church, 22007 Green Springs Church Rd, Abingdon, VA, 24211, or Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1655 Peel Ave, Orlando FL, 32806.
