Farris D. Etterlee, Sr.- 87, a proud veteran of the Navy, passed away September 29, 2024, in Orlando, Florida. Farris was born on February 14, 1937, in Augusta, GA to the late John Etterle and Elva James. He graduated from Hephzibah High School where he played football. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with the Heavy Attack Squadron Four, NAS, Whidbey Island, WA. He was also stationed on the USS Shangri-La.
He married the Love of his Life Catherine Sandra Nolen in Orlando, Florida and they returned to NAS, Whidbey Island, WA. A couple of years later their daughter was born at the NAS, WA. They later moved back to Orlando to be close to family, and they had a son. They raised a beautiful family together and were wonderful parents.
Farris graduated from Rollins College and was retired from OUC as an engineer. He was a member of Conway First Baptist Church. Farris was also a Master Mason of over 50 years with Eola Lodge #207 Orlando, FL. In better health he enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking and loved to sing at church. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was known for giving the Best Bear Hugs.
Farris is survived by his daughter Pamela Andrus (Jeff), son Farris Etterlee, Jr. (Mark), grandson, Jason Andrus, granddaughter Michelle Ratcliffe (Duane), brother, Walter, brother-in-loves: George Nolen (Becky), David Nolen (Jennifer), Robert Nolen (Deedie) and many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Farris was recently preceded in death July 31st by his wife Catherine Sandra Nolen (his sweet angel of 66 years). He is now reunited “In the Garden” with His Sweet Love Sandra.
In lieu of flowers feel free to give a donation in Farris’s memory to Conway First Baptist Church, 4000 Conway Rd, Orlando, FL 32812 or to a Veteran in need.
Services will be held on October 19, 2024, at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Rd, Orlando, FL 32806 as follows: Visitation: 9:30am-10:30am; Free Masons 10:30 - 11am; Funeral Service: 11:00-11:45am
Graveside Burial Service will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd, Gotha, FL 34734 at 12:30pm-1:00pm with Military Honors at the gravesite. Navy Honors will be held.
