On October 15, 2023, Erin Waldorf Belvin, 62, of Orlando, FL passed away with her husband, David, faithfully by her side. We are incredibly saddened to live in a world without her but feel relieved to know she is at rest following a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
To know Erin was to love her. She was blessed with a servant's heart and felt immense joy using her gift for giving and helping others. She loved fiercely and volunteered relentlessly. There wasn't a school event or concession stand or bulletin board within a mile of her that she wouldn't have loved to help you out with.
She was happiest with a full house of family crowded around her dining table. Erin always believed her French toast recipe needed just a little more butter and her Easter wreaths could use just one more bow. She was famous for her love of Christmas, always decorating at least four trees and providing an open invitation to come over for cookie bakes.
She was born in Honolulu in 1960 and spent her childhood surfing on Hawaii's stunning beaches with her eight brothers and sisters. Raised by her parents, Bill and Patricia Wall, her father's Army career moved the family to Orlando just in time for her to attend Lyman High School (Class of '79!). While at Lyman, she was an All-American athlete, voted Head Cheerleader, and made friends that would last her lifetime.
Erin met the love of her life, David, at work in 1979. After five years of dating and one refusal of an elopement, they were married at First Baptist Orlando in 1984. They remain active members of the church and called Orlando home. Their just-shy-of 40-year marriage is a testament to the power of commitment, sunny boat rides on Saturday afternoons, their mutual love of the Lord, great friends, and Erin's good-natured ability to go along with any prank or adventure.
In 1984, Erin earned a Bachelor's degree from Florida Southern College, and shortly after took on her true calling dedicating her life to children, both her own and thousands of others. She spent countless hours on ball fields, gym floors, classrooms, choir stands, and field trips in service of others. She was a beloved part of church and school communities at the First Academy, Winter Park High and Lake Highland Prep School.
Her children, Caitlin (born 1987), Madeline (born 1989) and Bryton (born 1999) feel incredibly blessed to have her as a mom. She knew how to love in the biggest and smallest of ways, equal parts infinite patience, joy and "you better straighten up." There are simply no words to explain how she was truly the best of the best as a mom.
In recent years, Caitlin promoted her to 'Grandie' with the birth of her two daughters Tatum (born 2020) and Teagan (born 2021). While only with them a short time, they will be forever shaped by Erin's love and example.
Dear Erin, we would say rest in peace, but we know you are already busy organizing something to help make the heavens a brighter place. Until we see you again, your light will continue to shine through all of those you have touched. We love you.
