Edith Evensen Brown
August 28, 1916-November 2, 2015
Edith Evensen Brown was born the second child of Norwegian immigrants Thora Andersen and Gunder Evensen in West New York, NJ. She graduated from high school in Hoboken, NJ. Her only sister Alice died in 1939 and her only brother George died in 1980.
During the war, she worked for Wright's Aeronautical as a drafter.
As a young adult, she was on a fencing team, basketball team and enjoyed horseback riding, including English saddle.
She married Warren H. Brown, originally of Center Hill, FL, in June, 1945. In 1955, they moved the family, which included two daughters, to the Orlando area when he got a job at R.G. Coffman Ornamental Iron. They were married almost 66 years when he died in 2011.
Edith worked for the City of Orlando at Greenwood Cemetery, first as an administrative assistant and then as the supervisor.
Edith was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and transferred to Reformation Lutheran Church in the 1970s where she was also a faithful member until her death.
While her daughters were at Lake Como Elementary School, Edith was active in PTA and Girl Scouts. After she retired, she took tai chi lessons for decades.
Edith enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, the Bahamas and Scandinavia. She was also an avid reader.
She is survived by her daughters, Joan Brown Williams and Marilyn (Lynnie) Brown, both of Orlando; four grandchildren: Aren Williams and wife Alexa, Kristina Harold and husband Shay, Summer Meury and husband Tobias, all of Orlando, and Andersen Williams of Denver; seven great-grandchildren of Orlando; and niece Ann Evensen of Cliffside Park, NJ.
