On September 28, 2019, at the age of 74 the faithful praying Matriarch of our family Dorothy Ruth Wren Brown of Orlando and Riverview, Florida entered the Gates of Heaven. Dorothy was born on September 29, 1944, in Orlando, Florida and was the first born child of Irven Christopher and Sarah Ruth Roger's Wren. Dorothy graduated from Colonial High School in 1963. She was a homemaker and an active member of Sanctuary Church of God. She worked with the Widows Ministry there. Through the help of the church she was able to make sure the widows were not forgotten at the holidays as well as held functions for them throughout the year. 51 years ago on January 1, 1968 Dorothy married the love of her life Larry Brown. Dorothy had the privilege to join her husband Larry who was in the Army on his two tours of Germany. She was considered the official parent chaperone for all field trips for her children's' school. She was able to explore Castles, Cathedrals Historical mountain hideaways the Eiffel Tower and so much more. Her first visit to Germany through the Chaplain she was able to work with an orphanage and fell in love with the children there. In 1970 she was designated a Border Belle by the 14th Armored Cavalry because she was the first wife there to give birth.
Her second visit to Germany she volunteered over 2000 hours at the Army Community Service Center as Treasurer, and Volunteer Supervisor. She also served on the NCO/EM Wives Club Board, worked with the Protestant Religious Program, was the Director for the Vacation Bible in 1980 and set the Treasurer's books for the Burdingen Bus Committee. In 1981 she was awarded a Certificate of Commendation from the European Department Association of The United States Army. In 1985 when her husband Larry retired from the Army. Dorothy received a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Army thanking her for her unfailing support and understanding that helped to make possible her husband's lasting contribution to the Nation. In 1996 once a week Dorothy began volunteering at the Alzheimer's Respite Care Day Care Center. She really enjoyed working with the clients there, listening to their stories, dancing and singing with them. Little did she know that years later she herself would be diagnosed with Alzheimer's.... Dorothy is survived by her husband, Larry Brown, her Daughter Kelly Ruth Brown Johnson and Son-in-Love, Darren Ashley Johnson of Riverview, Florida and her Son, Christopher Lawrence Brown of New Smyrna, Florida. Dorothy deeply loved all 5 of her grandchildren (whether they were related by blood or not) very much. Jessica Ashleyruth Johnson, Thomas Anthony Johnson, Brantley Michele Brown, Margeaux Sterling and Jordan Sterling. Her baby sister and friend Audrey Ann Wren McDorman and her Brother-In-Love Richard Lee McDorman of Apopka, Florida. Her neice Wendy Ann McDorman Neff and David Neff of Georgia and her nephew Kevin Lee McDorman of Apopka, Florida. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her Granddaughter, Jessica Ashleyruth Johnson in 2013. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2019 11AM in the Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
