Darrell Wade Cantrell, 64, of Orlando, FL, was admitted into the kingdom of Heaven on 14 April, 2020. Darrell was born on August 14,1956 in Knoxville, TN. He was the third son of Nancy Jo-Warwick and Colonel Ralph Dyer Cantrell, Sr.
Darrell served honorably as a Sergeant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers where he worked as a Senior Heavy Construction Equipment Operator. During his military service, Darrell was stationed in Louisiana and Hawaii. During his tenure at Schofield Barracks, HI, Darrell was chosen by the Army to serve on Enewetak Atoll, part of the Marshall Islands, where he removed radioactive material generated from America’s early atomic tests in the South Pacific.
Following his military service, Darrell enjoyed a long and productive career with the City of Huntsville, Alabama Public Works Department.
Darrell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Orlando and was active in many of the Church’s programs. He is survived by his mother Nancy Jo, brothers Ralph Dyer, Jr and David Wade, sister Pamela Elaine, and son Philip. Darrell’s wife Cindy (McGinnis) predeceased him by ten years.
Darrell wanted all to know that he loved his family, his Mother, America, and Jesus.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Orlando on Tuesday, 7 September 2021. Graveside service-1pm at Florida National Cemetery Bushnell to follow and will be presided by Lieutenant General Carl Schaefer, United States Air Force, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH. Arrangements entrusted to Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, Orlando.
