Daniel Hall

July 22, 1917 — February 15, 2014

Daniel George Hall, 96, of Orlando, Florida passed away February 15, 2014. He was born in Bar Harbor, Maine July 22, 1917 to Ernest and Alice Tracy Hall. He moved with his family to Pinellas Park, Florida in 1924 and graduated from St. Petersburg High, St. Petersburg Junior College and University of Florida, class of 1938. He is a retired newspaper executive, with positions in St. Petersburg, where he was Sports Editor and Personnel Director of the St. Pete Times, the Bergen Record Hackensack, New Jersey and the Orlando Sentinel. He served in the Army Air Force 19411945 as an air navigator instructor and B29 radar operator in the South Pacific, and active duty in the US Air Force 19511952, with the rank of captain, as radar operator on B20 crew where he flew 27 missions over North Korea and was awarded an Air Medal. He remained in the Air Force active reserve where he achieved the rank of Lt. Col. Dan was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Orlando and was a church usher for more than 50 years spanning years in St. Petersburg, Ridgewood, New Jersey and Orlando where he was a loyal member of the Pendergrass Sunday School class. He was Past President of the International Newspaper Personnel Relations Association, Bergen County New Jersey Personnel Association, St. Petersburg Little Theater, and the Joe Jefferson Players, Ridgewood, New Jersey. His hobby was theater and he played 50 roles is school, college and community theaters. He also enjoyed golf and anything Gators. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Hoyt and his beloved wife of 68 years Frances. He is survived by his son Dan Jr. of Lilburn, GA,, his daughters Jessica of Orlando and Tracy of La Crescenta, CA and his grandsons Danny and Harry Pessy of La Crescenta, CA. A celebration of Dans life will be held on Tuesday Feb. 24th at the First United Methodist Church of Orlando. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Feed the Need co the First United Methodist Church of Orlando.
