Christine Krieger Sharp age 96, a resident of Orlando, Florida, has passed away on December 25, 2024. Christina previously lived in Newburgh, New York, from 1965 - 1991. She was born on August 4, 1928, in Fort Montgomery, New York. She is the daughter to Joseph Sr. and Mary Krieger. After high school, where she was the queen of the school during her senior year. She enjoyed being a cheerleader for all four years. After high school she enlisted in the US Cadet Nurse Corps and attended the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Newburgh, New York. Christina graduated as a Registered Nurse in September 1948. Because she was a Cadet Nurse, the government sent her to spend the last 6 months of her nursing school at McGuire Veterans Hospital, in Richmond, Virginia. She received her BS degree from the College of William and Mary, of Virginia in 1955. Later she received her MA degree from New York University of New York City in 1974. Christina has worked in the nursing field from Virginia, New York and to California. Fun fact, Christina taught nursing in both New York State and California. She later retired as a teacher from New York State and always said that nursing was a wonderful career.
Christina is predeceased be her husbands, Dyer Clayton (US Army WWII), Andrew A Sharp Jr. (US Army Korea & Vietnam, 2 tours) and Robert C. Townsend Sr. (US Army Air Corp WWII). Her Parents Joseph Sr. and Mary Krieger, her brother and wife, Joseph L. Krieger Jr. (US Navy WWII) and Phyllis Krieger, her children Jill Ann Sharp, and Shawn Sharp, and her stepdaughter Paula Townsend Shay.
Christina is survived by her sister Mary Bologna, her son-in-law William Burbage and stepson Robert C Townsend Jr., her grandsons Zachary and Cole Zegers and her step grandsons Michael and Christian Townsend and Gregg Shay and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Christina enjoyed volunteer organizational work and was a member of the retired nurses, plus several retired teacher's organizations, and several widow groups. She also was a part of American Association of University Women, The Alliance for retired Americans, The Elks Club and held many offices in these groups. She was the president of Retiree Council 43 of the New York State United Teacher's here in Florida for 10 years, and she received the Everday Hero Award and the Living Legacy Award from the American Federation of Teachers. Christina also was a member of the American Legion, The Vetrans of Foreign Wars, The Memory Program at the Vietnam Wall and The Casselberry Vetrans.
Christina was the who's who of the American Women, The American Education in the World and in The America and in healthcare. She loved to travel, and she visited every continent, every state and at least 60 countries. She lived in Saigon, Vietnam in 1962 as an Army dependent with her husband Andrew and her son Shawn.
Following the cremation, Christina will be interred with her husband Andrew A. Sharp Jr. at West Point Military Acadamy Memorial Cemetery at West Point, New York.
