Charles Clayton Sylvester, Jr., 84, of Orlando, FL., passed away peacefully on March 14, 2016. He was born and raised in DeLand, the son of Iva Dreggors Poston and Charles Clayton Sylvester, Sr. He attended DeLand High School and graduated from Tennessee Military Institute in Sweetwater, TN in 1950. He served in the U. S. Army, Florida National Guard, Army Reserves attaining the rank of Captain.
He was a professional civil engineer and retired from the Department of Transportation in 1984. He then moved to Orlando and worked as a consultant for the Orlando Expressway Authority. He continued to provide consulting services for the state until he was in his early 80's He more than once was heard say, "I can't ride on a road in central Florida without remembering I had something to do with it."
Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and a Florida Gator. He is survived by his wife, Janice of Orlando, daughters, Cathy (Bill) Campbell of DeLand and Janice (Lee) Kemp of Leesburg and 4 grandchildren: Clinton, (Stephanie) Kemp, Iva Marie Creed, Megan (Chris) Jacobs and Ian Campbell and 2 great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held on Monday, March 21st at 11:00 AM at Eastland Baptist Church, 9000 Lake Underhill Drive, Orlando.
