Charlie was born April 1, 1926, in Reading, PA to Charles H. and Lydia Shultz. There, he participated in the Boy Scouts, as first a scout then a leader and graduated from Reading High School. He enlisted in the Navy before his seventeenth birthday, received boot training at Camp Peary, VA and saw action in the Pacific theater during WWII. In May 1955, he married the love of his life, Carol Pat Roehrig, in Cincinnati, OH, and was happily married until the day he passed. They moved to Orlando, FL in 1959 and lived in the same house for 55 years. That same year they joined the parish at Good Shepherd Catholic Church where they remained faithful parishioners. Charlie was a member of the hospitality committee for 30 years. He retired from Martin Marietta after 30 years with the motto Out the gate in 88.
Charlie was an avid reader and selftaught in many areas of interest. He enjoyed sailing, tennis, gardening, wood turning and carpentry. His thespian talents were put to good use as he performed on stage throughout Central FL. One of his great passions after retirement was world travel with Pat. Their first adventure was a boat trip down the Amazon River and their ongoing itineraries included many countries around the world where they rode camels and elephants ate local cuisine and conversed with people of all cultures.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Helen Eckert. He is survived by his wife Pat, daughter Marsha Shultz, son Charles M. Margaret, daughter Melanie Barge Steve, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
