Catherine J. Sykes Feldmeyer, our wonderful mother, a loving wife, and a strong woman and true friend, passed away Tuesday after a long illness. Kay, as she is known to her many friends, was 94 years old, and lived a rich, full life. She was born on March 20, 1922 in McAdoo, Pennsylvania. She was a Registered Nurse, getting her education at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. After WWII she married William Warren Sykes, a decorated combat veteran who flew B-24's during the war. Together they raised five children. Warren was a career Air Force Officer, and frequently away on remote assignments. Kay often had to raise those five children all by herself (we said she was a strong woman). After their Air Force career, they retired to Orlando, and Kay went to work as an RN at Orlando General Hospital (now Florida East), where she was much loved & respected by her patients and the staff. After her husband passed away in 1993, she met and married Bill Feldmeyer. They traveled together extensively, to destinations throughout the world. They were also very active in the local Elks Club, and participated in several bowling leagues. After Bill Feldmeyer died in 2013, Kay continued to drive herself, play bridge three days a week, and live on her own, until suffering a stroke last year. Kay has been a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church since moving to Orlando in the early 1970's. Kay is survived by her two daughters: Chris Kamitsis & husband Tony, and Linda Rambo & husband John; by her three sons: Bill Sykes & wife Melissa, Larry Sykes & wife April, and Barry Sykes & wife Evelyn; and her step-son: Kurt Feldmeyer & wife Sabrina. And also by her thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was a warm, wonderful person, and we all miss her greatly.
