Betty Virginia Stipe Swanson
Betty Swanson of Orlando, Florida passed away peacefully in her sleep into the presence of her Lord on Thursday, March 24, 2016. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 29, 1923 to Beulah Virginia Stipe and Alwyn Leon Stipe and was their only child. She married Richard Henry Swanson on July 27, 1946 and was married to him for 59 years until his death in 2005.
Betty is survived by a son Raymond McMahon, Zephyrhills, Fl., daughter Virginia E. Mundo (James) Orlando, Fl., daughter Marilyn M. Daly (David) Sanford, Fl., son Richard W.A. Swanson, Ocoee, FL., and daughter Cheryl M. Danver Orlando, Fl. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, grandson, Stephen McMahon, a daughter-in-law, Lori Swanson and son-in-law, Charles Danver. She is survived by seven grandsons and two granddaughters, three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Betty's life was full as she took on several roles. She was an airplane mechanic during WWll. She met Richard when he was in the Army Air Corp. and was stationed in Georgia. When Richard discharged from the service, they married and later moved to Chicago, Illinois because he could get a job as a carpet contractor. As the children came along, Betty helped Richard run his carpet business and was also very involved in church duties, raising five children and helping Richard to expand and remodel their house to accommodate their growing family. Eventually, they moved to Florida in late 1969 and settled in Orlando. It was her "dream" place to live. Not every "plan" worked out perfectly, but they still had a full life and filled their house with many good memories.
A viewing will be held at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL., on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 1:00pm-2:00pm. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery will be private. Arrangements entrusted to Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home. 407 898 2561.
