Betty Lou Dorsey, age 91 of Orlando, Florida passed away peacefully Friday, September 29, 2023 in Orlando, Florida surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born July 16, 1932 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late William and Rosa Fleetwood Johnson. Betty loved her family and raising her children. She and her late husband, David Dorsey worked together to design and build two of their homes. She enjoyed tracing her family ancestry dating back to England and Scotland in the 1700’s. While raising her children she was a seamstress who made beautiful clothing for her children. Her hobbies included the love of music, art, and animals. She had many pets throughout her life and passed this loving legacy on to her children. When her children were young, Betty and her late husband enjoyed vacationing at the Smoky Mountains and Sarasota beaches. She was an amazing cook and specialized in delicious desserts.
In addition to her late husband David Dorsey and her parents William & Rosa Fleetwood Johnson, Betty is preceded in death by her siblings, Alma Gilmore, Dorothy Sharpe, Alldean Johnson and Novellene Smith.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Betty L. Dorsey of Greensboro, North Carolina, Glenda Dorsey-Gardner of Loganville, Georgia, Kathy S. Dorsey of Orlando, Florida; grandsons, Benjamin J. Gardner of Atlanta, Georgia, Jonathan D. Gardner of Conyers, Georgia; and son-in-law, Joseph A. Gardner of Loganville, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513. Anyone wishing to send flowers may do so by having them sent to Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, Florida 32806 by 9 AM, Thursday, October 12, 2023.
