Alexander Marsh

Alexander M. Marsh went to be with the Lord May 5, 2016. He was a "man after Gods heart" as he served the Lord these 93 years on earth.

Born Nov. 6, 1922 in Hardee Co., Florida, he grew up in the depression era working cattle, tending groves, hunting and fishing and playing every sport with a ball in it. After high school he volunteered for the ARMY and was present on the front lines of the Battle of the Bulge where he was captured in the first day's action. He spent 4 months in a German stalag along with many other members of his beloved 106th Infantry Division. On returning home he met and married Mildred Taylor who insisted he get his college degree. There followed 4 years at U of F where he majored in agriculture while leading his Air Force ROTC unit. After discharge from active duty in 1953, they returned to Florida where he began a lifelong career in agricultural sales of fertilizer and lime, a field in which he met so many of his friends who were ranchers and growers from Okeechobee to the Georgia line. He loved his work and the people it brought him in contact with…in fact, the day he passed he was making arrangements for lime to be spread at Deseret Farms!

He was an active member and deacon at the First Baptist Church since 1956 when it was downtown and is responsible for the big limestone "Rock of Ages" out front of the present location of FBC. For many years he led the FBC prison ministry seeing many come to Christ through his witness. He was a well-respected football official for over 20 years and refereed a few state championships during his career.

Alex loved his first wife of 60 years, Mildred, and his family which included Andrew and Addie Belle (father and mother), Voncille, Cecil, Luke, Mae Frank, Doris, Ruth, and Winston-all preceding him in death. He is survived by his second wife of 7 years, Patricia, his son Michael and wife Jane, Grandchildren Andrew (Kara) , Joel (Danielle), Seth (Emily), Lydia Mindling (Tim) and three grandsons by Drew and Kara- Caleb, Rye, and Hudson. Surviving also are his beloved younger sister, Naomi Pearson and his half-sister Juanita Heard as well as more nieces and nephews "than you can shake a stick at"!

As with so many men and women of his generation, he will be missed in a monumental way, but our family takes comfort knowing that he is most assuredly with the Lord in Heaven because his faith for his eternal life was totally in the hands of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
There will be a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando, on Monday, May 9, 2016 @ 10:30 am. A memorial service will follow at 1:00pm @ First Baptist Orlando-Henry Chapel, 3000 S. John Young Parkway, Orlando. Arrangements entrusted to Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, Orlando, FL.
